Potential College Essay Question
If you were a man or a woman of both average looks and average intelligence and you had the choice of being either better looking or smarter, which would you choose?

According to Caleb’s scale, I now weigh 150 pounds which would put me in the “normal” BMI category for the first time in a long time. However, apparently my weight gain is still imperceptible to the eye, as Matt, Kate, and Caleb have noticed no visible change.
That’s about 10 more pounds you’re going to have to lift when it comes time for our pull up challenge…
Uncertainty
Recently I came to a point where there was a fork in the road and I had to decide which path to take. I chose a path and then had buyer’s remorse, but there was a no return policy. The fork is still in viewing distance and I seem to be unable to stop staring at it. Staring at forks is no fun. When it comes time to eat, I better not still be staring at the fork. I fear starving to...
"Every generation needs to feel like they've...
I’m pretty sure the quote was different, but that’s how I heard it. It’s funny how when you’re young you think that your parents are backwards, but that your generation’s got it all figured out and that that’s probably been the case since the beginning of time. Still, let’s keep the promise of youth alive, shall we?
Uh Oh
I think I made a very bad decision
I think
it’s not that it’s important that your significant other has a well-paying, respectable job, but it’s important that he or she feels successful and a lot of times people define their success by their career and it’s a lot easier to feel successful if you’re making money.
Now, I’m not convinced of what I’m about to say, but I figure I’d say it...

The new drugs are called sirtuin activators … The basic theory is that all or most species have an ancient strategy for riding out famines: switch resources from reproduction to tissue maintenance = reliably increases their life span … Mice on the drugs generally remain healthy right until the end of their lives and then just drop dead.
I suspect
That I wash my face in the morning twice about 20% of the time. It’s hard to tell the difference between deja vu and reality when it’s something you do everyday.
Boredom
Most of the shows I’ve seen that deal with race and which I imagine critics probably tout for doing so (30 Rock, Weeds, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc…) generally have white protagonists. Boring. Maybe I’m just watching the wrong shows.
So here's what happened pt. 2
Ok, to recap. There’s a crazy ass skunk in our car.
At this point, there are four of us smushed in the back seat of the car, so the skunk has nowhere to go but up. It jumps up in front of me, starts wigging out, my dukes go up, my father stops the car, and we all run out screaming. So at 2am, a car stops in the middle of a residential road and 6 people run out of it screaming, followed,...
My life
Is in shambles right now. My room is a mess, I’m sick, there’s a 0.2% chance I have rabies, I don’t have AC, there’s a heat wave, my bed sucks, I woke up at 3:20pm today, I have to wake up at 8:00am tomorrow, I left my phone charger at home and something else that’s pretty funny but I can’t post on this blog. On the upside, I’m starting to feel better...

So here's what happened
We run over a skunk going about 30mph in Vancouver while we’re on vacation. The car smells disgusting and, suspiciously, continues to smell disgusting well past it should have, but gradually it seems to start going away. My sister starts talking all this crazy talk about how she feels like the skunk is still under our car. We drive some 5 - 10 miles more before turning into the street of...
When the police started to question him, he would have to give them a clear and cogent explanation as to why he’d moved into a neighborhood where he wasn’t welcome, why he’d filled the house with guns, why he’d been prepared to use them.
But Ossian didn’t have a coherent story to tell. He had the shards of his family’s history: the legacy of a half-remembered...
We Parking Lot Pimpin
I’ve been thinking recently about how at different stages in life you have a different objective depending on the means through which you can affect the world (i.e. a kid can’t perform surgery so improving the health care system might not be the right M.O. for a 4 year old). I’m not saying kids shouldn’t reach for the sky, I’m saying that maybe your neighborhood is...
Talking At People
A lot of times I have conversations with people where we’re not so much conversing as we are talking at each other. It often goes like this. John thinks X, but that everyone else has it wrong and thinks Y. Bob says Z, which sounds like Y, and John excitedly jumps on the opportunity to explain to Bob his common misconception. Now, Bob really just wanted to talk about how funny Knocked Up...
Robot Divorce

Does anyone think it’s weird how the robots in Wall-E were gendered? I just looked back on an old post where I refer to Wall-E as “he” and Eva as “she”. The funny thing is, though Wall-E is clearly gendered male and Eva female, she is far more dominant not only emotionally but also physically. If not for her girly voice and name, I would guess that she was supposed to be the male...
