What is Beef?
There always seems to be a looming fear of violence when it comes to debates amongst our representatives. Take this exerpt from a factsheet on the Australian Parliament website:
“The spirited nature of Question Time can be disquieting to some observers but others defend the robust nature of the period as a sign of a healthy democracy where disagreements are vented in debate rather than through more physical confrontations.”
I guess its an interesting idea that we somehow channel our frustrations through our representatives who translate them into civil debate, which then leads to a dissipation of said frustration amongst the masses which reduces the likelihood of violence - the airing out of grievances as they say in the Parliamentary system. The idea of our representatives as a medium through which we pass chaos (love, fear, hatred, etc…) is neat, but chaos can only be tamed so much - at some point talking is not enough.
