Robot Divorce

smalter:

Does anyone think it’s weird how the robots in Wall-E were gendered? I just looked back on an old post where I refer to Wall-E as “he” and Eva as “she”. The funny thing is, though Wall-E is clearly gendered male and Eva female, she is far more dominant not only emotionally but also physically. If not for her girly voice and name, I would guess that she was supposed to be the male character. Wall-E does save the day, like a male character would, but he does it the way women are protrayed to save the day—namely as Eva’s/the plant’s caretaker, not through any macho physical beatdowns.

Yeah, I thought it was pretty weird at first.  I thought Eva was the dude, but as the movie went on they fit back nicely into the male/female roles as they exist in my head.  It’s just a variation of the loser-dude-gets-the-cool-girl scenario when she realizes he truly loves her, but with robots.  They’ll break up in a few weeks.
