I’m a Little Tea Pot…
I listened to 808s and Heartbeat a bunch of times today. There’s this case they teach in property law classes, at least they did in my property law class a few days ago, where some architect proposes to build a triangle house in a suburban neighborhood and they refuse him a permit because they think its ugly. We spent a lot of time talking about the issue in class and people got pretty worked up. Is this an appropriate use of police power? What’s going to happen to our property value? So what if we want to enforce architectural homogeneity in our neighborhood, you can find another place to live! Yeah, well this neighborhood is part of the school we want our kid to go to and I have the right to live in the type of house I want! All of this over a triangle house because, in real life, we apparently have to squabble over things like triangle houses. When it comes to the make believe land of art though, I’d rather not have to squabble over triangle houses.
